Martin Luther King Jr. was a civil-rights activist as well as a Baptist minister who, beginning in the mid-1950s, had a large impact on race relations in the United States. He had a central role in the creation of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The accomplishment that he is most known for is his vital role in the ending of legal segregation of African-American citizens in the United States.
